Do you have a clogged HVAC system? We get it. It's a filthy issue which many people living in the Dallas/Forth Worth area deal with.

• Worst case scenario this could cause a house fire if backed up water leaked onto electrical components of your HVAC system. According to the National Fire Protection Agency, ever year over 8,500 house fires are caused by HVAC systems not being properly maintained.

You have two options for unclogging your HVAC system.

1. You can call a professional from Keller Plumbing Company.
2. Or you can do it yourself.

If you want a DIY project here's a fairly straightforward method of fixing it. It is very possible that there could be something additional that is wrong with your HVAC system so we definitely recommend that you give us a call to have a professional come out and at least diagnose the issue.

Follow these steps to unclog your HVAC drain line.

1. Grab your Wet/Dry Vacuum.

​​​​​ The Wet/Dry Vacuum is going to be used to draw out any objects obstructing the main drain line.

2. Locate the main HVAC drain line outside your house.

 HVAC systems typically have two drain lines, a primary and a secondary. The primary drain line should be located outside at the base of your house close to the ground. Look for a 3/4 inch PVC pipe that's coming from out of your home. 

3. Attach the Wet/Dry Vacuum nozel to the drain line.

Here comes the most important step. Attach the nozel of your vacuum to the drain line. Make sure that the nozel is sealed well on the drain pipe so that you don't lose any suction power. Turn on the vacuum and let it run for three to four minutes.

4. Look inside the vacuum for water, algae, and other dross.​

After you've let the vacuum run for about three of four minutes, turn the vacuum off and check inside. You'll probably find water that was backed up, as well as algae, dust, dirt, and possibly bugs. Throw out the trash and you're finished.
